Movie of the day

The movie is about Gerry Conlon from Belfast who moves to London to get a job and earn money for his family. During his stay in London Gerry and his friend Paul move in with a flock of hippies, and meet up with Carole Richardson and Paddy Armstrong. A day Gerry and Paul is in the park and met up with a homeless named Charlie Burke, after a while an explosion can be heard in the background, they leave the park with no further problems. Later on that night they finds someones key and break in to their house, they find a lot of money and has therefore everything they need and travel back to Belfast. After a while back home they get arrested and charged for the bombing back in London, after long and violant interrogations Gerry, Paul, Carole and Paddy get convicted for murder only for being Irish and at the wrong place at the wrong time. The rest of Gerry`s family also get convicted for knowing of the "terrorist activities", and his father has to spend years in prison with his son Gerry. Gerrys father which has bad healt dies after 15 years in prison. Barrister Gareth Pierce starts to investigate the case in the police archives and finds out that the police has hid information for the court, the case opens again. This evidence provided Gerry with a solid alibi the court is forced to release all four. When leaving the courthouse, Gerry states that he will continue to fight injustice "in the name of his father.".

This was a very strong movie and showed us much hatred and injustice.

Poem work

I co-operated with Lars on this task. We chose the poem "A dream deferred" by Langston Hughes.
Generally I am not that into poems and such, but this time I felt we got lucky by our chose of poem. "A dream deferred" was such a deep poem compared with the others. This gave me an extra feeling about this : )

Our English Trip

After doing a quite interesting project, where we(Magnus, Henrik, Johannes and me) were going to plan a trip to the UK, I have to say that I really enjoyed this form of work. I think it's so much better than just looking in our Englishbook and doing various tasks. To be able to have a powerpoint presentation, and just talk to a crowd is one of the things I find the most interesting with any oralsubject(Norwegian, social studies, etc). All in all; A fun assignment!

Of mice and men, the play

Hi!

My personal thaughts of the play was mainly good, the actors played well and the whole atmosphere was entertaining.
The only thing I did'n completly enjoy was that they had made some scenes different from the book/the film, for exsample the scene when Lennie having a chat with the negro on the farm. In the book and the film they are having a converstion and the negro leaves, while in the play it ends with a party with 4 members including the woman in the red dress (whose dosen't know her name).

But when all things comes to and end, it was a nice experience to have read the book, seen the movie and seen the play. We'll have to do this kind of learing more often!

The book that I now will write a summary of is, "of mice and men" written by John Steinbeck. The book is under the category "drama". It's written during the 1930s. It was first published in 1937. The book follows two men through their lives, or parts of it at least.
They make their way to a ranch where they expect to find work. George, the small and bright one of them, goes in front. Lennie, which is a bit retarded, but with an enormous strength follows him. Lennie has been accused of assaulting a girl and that's why they had to leave town. It was never in Lennie's thoughts to assault the girl, he just wanted to stroke her dress, because it seemed soft. You see, Lennie loves soft, furry things, but he can't have a pet animal, for he keeps getting them killed, he doesn't want to kill them, he is just to strong. Together they are travelling from ranch to ranch, trying to gather as much money as they need to get their own place.. Sometimes George wants to leave Lennie on his own, but he takes care of him, helping him with all his needs. When they finally reach the ranch they are hired for the season. George tries to keep Lennie out of all sorts of trouble, at the same time avoiding trouble himself. George's only wish is to save money so they can one day get their own place and settle down. Such a place costs a lot of money which George and Lennie does not have, but Candy, a farmer, offers them his savings, and asks to become their partner. The dream now seems closer for George and Lennie.
